Soniferous Space 10
An interactive percussion performance
Collecting waste from the area of Cariñena, this (performative) space is the tenth in a series of pieces composed by Porter Ellerman utilizing only found objects and materials. Through this constriction of instruments, creativity guides the performance and the importance of listening to the quality of sound becomes tantamount. No longer is the musical structure a necessity, but the quality and timbre of sounds from the objects and how these are achieved are observed. The inclusion of audience participation in this Space also allows an additional layer: how do other people react to musical instructions: how might one influence another, or a group of people? Combining these themes, the performance is closer to an experiment or game, offering an outlet for audience-members and an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of sound we may take for granted on a daily basis.
